About the Function:

This Finance opportunity lies within the Credit & Fraud Risk Controllership (C&FRC) team—an essential part of our global finance structure. The C&FRC team plays a vital role in upholding the accuracy and reliability of American Express’ financial statements while minimizing financial risks that can be controlled or prevented.

As a member of this high-performing controllership group, you will be part of a team responsible for managing the entire credit process lifecycle—from evaluating reserve sufficiency to ensuring compliance with external and regulatory reporting requirements. This position focuses on delivering precise and prompt financial data management, specifically in relation to credit reserve evaluations and reporting.

Job Overview:

  • The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the organization’s financial accuracy by ensuring all reports align with both company guidelines and compliance frameworks. You will collaborate daily with cross-functional business units to gather relevant and accurate data, which is essential for precise reserve calculations.
  • A key part of the role is to partner closely with Risk, Risk Finance, and MRMG teams to design and execute reserve methodologies that align with qualitative risk assessments. You will analyze large datasets to uncover actionable insights, track credit performance metrics, and identify key drivers influencing financial outcomes.
  • Additionally, this position supports continuous process improvement and change management initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and maintain strong internal controls. You’ll contribute to the strengthening of governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
  • In collaboration with business, network, and technology teams, you’ll assist in platform modernization and automation efforts, promoting scalable and future-ready financial operations. The role also includes active participation in internal and external audits, with responsibilities extending to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) controls, PRSA (Process Risk Self-Assessment) management, and addressing regulatory examinations and inquiries.
  • This is a strategic role combining financial expertise, risk management, and technical acumen to uphold financial integrity and support enterprise-wide financial objectives.

Required Skills:

  • Ideal candidates for this role will bring a comprehensive background in credit reserve accounting and financial reporting, with familiarity in frameworks such as CECL (Current Expected Credit Loss) being highly advantageous. A solid understanding of reserve methodologies, paired with experience in interpreting and implementing complex financial regulations, will be crucial.
  • Technical proficiency in systems such as Triumph, Globestar, and Oracle is considered a strong plus, enabling seamless integration with existing tools and workflows. In addition, candidates should possess advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, especially PowerPoint and Word, to create compelling presentations and documentation.
  • Candidates should be familiar with digital finance tools such as Oracle, Tableau, Essbase, Cornerstone, and TM1, as they will be frequently used for tracking performance and generating reports. These tools are essential for generating insights, identifying performance trends, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • A process-driven mindset, combined with proven problem-solving skills, is key. Candidates should demonstrate a history of successfully improving processes and driving operational efficiency. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and conveying insights effectively.

Eligibility Criteria:
